The old OCD Action website was launched in February 2009, using a WordPress platform. Since that time no significant changes had been made to the structure or design of the site and there had also been a decrease in the number of pages visited and an increase in bounce rate. As part of the Charity’s strategy for the coming years, the Charity wanted to ensure that it had a website that really met the needs of its service users and was seen as part of the Charity’s core services rather than just a “shop window”.
The most important weaknesses to remedy were difficulty in accessing the site from mobile devices, lack of user focus, difficulty of finding the right resources and not taking opportunity to build relationships with visitors.
Oyster rebuilt the site focussing on four key deliverables; providing support to those affected by OCD, delivering resources for learning about OCD, providing information about the charity, and promoting support and involvement with the charity's fundraising and awareness programmes. We built a strong colour palette to work alongside the four key messaging areas and removed the dependancy on stock images which was hampering the previous site's design efforts. A range of icons and devices were introduced for use throughout both online and offline materials to deliver a clear and consistent messaging plan.
A complex resource centre was developed, allowing users to search and filter for the information that they need all from one location on the site. The site was also designed and built to be responsive, delivering the content perfectly across desktop and mobile devices including smartphones and tablets.
