Brand Refresh and New Website for Prestigious School

Westbourne House is an independent preparatory day and boarding school in Chichester. The prestigious school has an excellent reputation for both academics and co-curriculum subjects. The school is superbly positioned in a beautiful estate of playing fields, woodland and even a lake whilst also benefitting from being just on the outskirts of the historic city. Westbourne House engaged Oyster to refresh their brand, provide a clear supporting line and propositions to support their market research. The work also included the design and build of a new website.

The challenge

Having spent some time considering the core pillars for the school. Westbourne house engaged Oyster to take their findings and transform their brand. The design needed to be refreshed, including the logo and Fleur de lys used in the crest. The brand needed to engage with audiences of different entry ages, to communicate the ethos of the school and reflect the focus on each child developing their abilities and confidence.

Having been through a branding exercise, Westbourne House School were keen to commission a website that demonstrated its newly clarified brand values. The school included three areas, prep, pre-prep and nursery, all of which needed to be presented effectively online. A brand identify overhaul and refinements of messaging was also required to put the school in good stead to achieve its goals.

The solution

We came up with the headline 'All that I am, everything I can be' to reflect the aspirations communicated through research. We introduced a slight variation to colour palette and developed an advertising style that allowed imagery to breath, incorporated a key quote when required and felt friendly, confident and aspiring. We developed key message tone and style and brand design mechanics that covered different age groups, events and applications.

Oyster commissioned some photography and video to use on the new website and marketing materials. The brand team developed a visual style which was then applied to web visuals and other marketing materials. Following a UX planning session and agreement of a new sitemap, the website was built on open source CMS, Drupal. The website is easy to edit and managed by the school's in house team.
